The distances, stated plainly

Southern Idaho is not next door, and we are not going to say it is. These are approximate drive times to our Uintah shop in ordinary weather, without a trailer slowing you down.

Malad City is close enough for a round trip before lunch. Idaho Falls is a day. Everything else is somewhere in between, and most of it involves at least one stretch of interstate that gets salted all winter.

  • Malad City: about 82 miles, about 1 hour 20 minutes via I-15
  • Preston: about 83 miles, about 1 hour 40 minutes via US-91
  • Pocatello and Chubbuck: about 137 miles, about 2 hours 15 minutes via I-15
  • Burley and Rupert: about 158 miles, about 2 hours 40 minutes via I-84
  • Idaho Falls: about 187 miles, about 3 hours via I-15

How it works when you are two hours away

Nobody drives from Pocatello with one bracket. Idaho customers who work with us batch their work: a month of trailer tongues, a season of gates, a full production run of bumpers in one load. One trip down, one trip back, with the whole order finished in between.

The quote happens before the truck is loaded. Send photos, dimensions, quantity and color through the quote form, and the price and date come back the same business day. Drop-offs are scheduled, so the parts go straight onto the rack instead of sitting on the floor waiting for a slot.

After the first order, the spec lives on file by part number: powder, finish, mil thickness, masking. Reorders are a phone call or an email with part numbers and quantities. Nobody has to drive down to explain what they want a second time, and nobody here has to remember it.

Sending parts by freight

Some Idaho customers ship instead of drive. That works if the parts are packed to survive the trip both ways. Band parts to a pallet or crate them, keep threaded ends and machined faces protected, and label every part or bundle with a part number that matches your paperwork. Tell us at the quote that the order is coming by freight, and we will work out the return shipment with you before anything leaves your dock.

We do not offer free delivery to Idaho. Repeat accounts can ask about pickup and delivery on scheduled routes, and whether that reaches your town depends on volume and where we are already headed. Call 801-368-0788 and ask. The answer will be a real one.

What southern Idaho sends us

Mostly steel that works for a living. Trailer builders in the Pocatello and Magic Valley areas send frames, ramps and gates up to 20 feet long. Ag fabrication shops from Preston to Rupert send corral panels, feeders, headgates and equipment frames. Off-road and UTV builders send bumpers, racks and skid plates meant for forest roads around Soda Springs and beyond.

Southern Idaho parts get a hard life. I-15 over Malad Pass and I-84 through the Raft River country are salted heavily in winter, and most of the region sits around 4,500 feet or higher, with a lot of sun. For trailers and ag equipment we usually recommend blasting to bare steel, a zinc-rich primer, then a UV-stable powder coat. OEM runs get the same system on every batch, because it is on file.

Southern Idaho: questions

All questions →

Can Idaho shops ship parts to you?

Yes. Parts can come by freight if they are banded to a pallet or crated, with threads and machined faces protected and each bundle labeled with a part number. Tell us at the quote that the order is shipping, so we can plan the return shipment together. Finished parts go back packed the same careful way they arrived.

Do you offer powder coating near Preston, Idaho?

Our shop is in Uintah, Utah, just outside Ogden, about 83 miles and 1 hour 40 minutes south of Preston via US-91. That is close enough for Preston and Franklin customers to drop parts off and be home by mid-afternoon. Repeat accounts can ask about pickup and delivery on scheduled routes, depending on volume and timing.

Is an Ogden-area powder coater practical for a Pocatello business?

It is when the work is batched. Pocatello is about 137 miles and two and a quarter hours away, so customers typically bring a full load at once, quoted in advance by photo. Repeat parts are kept on file by part number, so reorders do not require a visit. For a single small part, a local shop is likely more practical.

Do you deliver finished parts to Idaho?

Not as a free service. Repeat accounts can ask about pickup and delivery on scheduled routes, and whether a route reaches your town depends on volume and where we are already going. Most Idaho customers pick up their finished order themselves or arrange freight. Call and we will give you a straight answer for your location.

What finish holds up to road salt on I-15 and I-84?

For trailers, hitches and equipment that travel salted interstates, we usually recommend sandblasting to bare steel, phosphate pretreatment, a zinc-rich primer, then a UV-stable topcoat. The primer slows rust creep if the topcoat chips. Southern Idaho elevation adds strong sun, so a polyester topcoat that resists fading is the usual choice for exterior parts.
