Is it worth coming over the canyon
Honest answer: it depends on the job. If you have one set of truck steps and there is a coater down the street in Logan, that is probably the right call. The math changes when the work repeats, when the part is long, or when the color has to match what you shipped last quarter.
Cache Valley shops that send work down to our Uintah shop tend to have one of three reasons. Their parts are longer than local ovens comfortably handle, and ours takes up to 20 feet. They run the same SKUs every month and want the spec held by part number. Or they want a firm 2–3 business days so they can schedule their own assembly around it.
If none of those apply, we would rather you save the drive. If one does, the canyon is about an hour.
Cache Valley builds a lot of steel
The valley has long-established fabrication shops and ag-equipment builders that have been welding up feeders, bale handlers, gates and implement frames for generations. That work is heavy, outdoors, and around livestock and fertilizer, which is hard on any finish. We blast it to bare steel, pretreat, and coat it with a primer underneath when it will see manure, brine or standing water.
There is also a strong off-road, UTV and truck accessory crowd north of Logan: bumpers, rock sliders, roof racks, skid plates. Texture black that stays black is the usual request, and it needs to survive a gravel road up Logan Canyon without chipping to bare metal in the first season.
Trailer builders in Cache Valley send frames and corral panels. Machine shops send brackets and housings with threads and bores masked. OEM runs get scheduled like everyone else's.
Winter on the parts and on the road
Cache Valley winters are cold and long, and the valley floor holds that cold for weeks at a time. Steel that lives outside through a Logan January goes through a lot of freeze-thaw cycling, and roads through the valley and the canyon are salted heavily. For trailers, hitches, bumpers and ag equipment, we usually recommend a zinc-rich primer under the powder coat. It adds a step and a day, and it holds up far better against salt.
Sardine Canyon is a divided highway and well maintained, but it climbs, and it can get snowy and slick between Wellsville and Mantua in a storm. If you are hauling a trailer of parts in winter, check road conditions before you leave and give yourself margin. We would rather receive the parts on Thursday than hear about the drive on Wednesday.
Getting parts from Logan to the shop
Most Cache Valley customers settle the quote first. Send photos, dimensions, quantity and color through the quote form and you get a price and a date the same business day. Then make one trip with everything. Brigham City is on the way if you are collecting parts from more than one shop.
Repeat accounts can ask about pickup and delivery on scheduled routes. A Cache Valley stop depends on volume and scheduling, so call 801-368-0788 and ask. Parts that need sandblasting first, like used ag equipment or a rusted trailer frame, should say so in the request so the quote covers prep.

Logan: questions
Straight answers. The full list covers cost, durability, substrates, minimums, and pickup.
All questions →Is it worth driving to the Ogden area from Logan for powder coating?
It depends on the job. For a single small part, a nearby Logan coater may make more sense. For long parts up to 20 feet, recurring SKUs that need matching color, or work that must meet a firm 2–3 business days turnaround, Cache Valley shops often find the hour-long drive worth it. Bundle jobs so it is one trip.
How long does it take to get from Logan to your shop?
About an hour and 56 miles in normal conditions. The route is US-89/91 south through Sardine Canyon, then south past Ogden to our shop in Uintah. Winter storms in the canyon can slow things down considerably, especially when towing, so check road conditions before loading a trailer. We would rather you arrive late than not at all.
Do you coat ag equipment from Cache Valley?
Yes. Feeders, gates, bale handlers, implement frames and corral panels are regular work. Used equipment gets sandblasted to bare steel first. For anything that lives outside near livestock, fertilizer or road salt, we usually recommend a zinc-rich primer under the topcoat. Deep pitting on old steel will still show through, and we will say so when quoting.
Can you handle winter road salt on Cache Valley trailers and bumpers?
Yes, with the right system. Proper blasting and phosphate pretreatment, a zinc-rich primer, then a durable topcoat holds up well against the salt used on Cache Valley roads and Sardine Canyon. No coating makes steel immune, and chips should be touched up, but the primer slows creep under a chip considerably compared with a single coat.
Do you pick up parts in Logan?
For repeat accounts, possibly. We run pickup and delivery on scheduled routes, and a Cache Valley stop depends on volume and timing. Most one-off Logan jobs are dropped off at our Uintah shop, often combined with other errands in Brigham City or along the Wasatch Front. Call to ask whether a route stop is realistic for your shop.
