Close enough to walk the part in

Most of our customers have to plan a trip. Ogden customers mostly do not. Our Uintah shop is a short drive south of downtown, so put the part in the truck, bring it to the counter, and show the person who will actually coat it where the threads are, which face gets seen, and what color the last batch was. That conversation takes four minutes in person and six emails otherwise.

Walk-ins get the same quote process as everyone else: dimensions, quantity, color, and when you need it. If the part is on a trailer, pull in and we will look at it where it sits. If it is a coffee can of fasteners, that is also fine. No part too small.

Repeat accounts in town can ask about pickup and delivery on scheduled routes. We do not promise specific days in writing on a website, because the route depends on who else is on it that week. Call 801-368-0788 and ask.

What Ogden actually builds

Ogden has a manufacturing base that most people driving past on I-15 never see. Business Depot Ogden, on the old defense depot ground west of downtown, is full of fabricators, distributors and assemblers. The west side of Weber County, out through Marriott-Slaterville, Farr West and Plain City, has trailer builders and welding shops working out of steel buildings with gravel lots.

The Hill Air Force Base supply chain reaches well north of the base itself. A lot of Ogden machine shops turn small aluminum and steel parts that need masking on threads, bores and grounding points before they are coated. Local trailer manufacturers send us frames, tongues, ramps and gates. Fab shops send the weldments they would rather not babysit through a booth themselves.

Then there is the east bench, where a century of houses has a century of iron railings, some of it original and most of it tired. Ornamental iron work gets stripped, blasted and recoated here. OEM production runs for Ogden-built products go on the schedule with the spec on file by part number.

Sandblasting in Ogden, including the old stuff

A fair share of Ogden work arrives with history on it: a gate with five coats of house paint, a hay rake from Plain City, a porch rail that has been rusting quietly since the Truman administration. Sandblasting takes it back to bare metal and puts a profile on it so the powder has something to grip.

Blasting does not un-pit steel. If a part has deep corrosion, the coating will follow every crater, and we will tell you that at the quote rather than after. Castings get an outgassing bake before coating so trapped air does not blister through the finish. Old chrome and plating have to be stripped first.

Once the part is clean it goes through phosphate pretreatment and then powder coating. Nobody sees this step on the finished part. It is most of the reason the finish is still there in ten years.

Weather at 4,300 feet

Ogden sits a little over 4,300 feet up, which means more UV than people expect, hard freeze-thaw cycles, and a lot of road salt. Anything that lives on a trailer, a truck, or a railing near a sidewalk sees brine every winter. For those parts we usually recommend a zinc-rich primer under the topcoat. It is a second pass through the oven and it is worth it.

Parts that go up Ogden Canyon to Huntsville and the valley, or over Trappers Loop, see the same salt with more snow on top. Parts that stay in a garage do not need the primer, and we will not sell it to you. Ask and we will explain the difference in plain terms, or read more about finish and color options.

All questions →

Can Ogden customers drop off parts without an appointment?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome during shop hours at our Uintah shop, about 15 minutes from downtown Ogden. A person at the counter will look at the part and take the details. For large loads, trailer frames, or anything that needs a forklift, call ahead so someone is free to unload. We still quote the same business day, and you will know the turnaround before you leave.

Do you do sandblasting for Ogden customers or only powder coating?

We do both, in the same building. Sandblasting and media blasting strip rust, mill scale and old paint, then parts go through phosphate pretreatment and powder coating without leaving the shop. You can also order blasting by itself if you plan to paint, weld, or inspect the part afterward. Tell us at the quote which one you need.

Which parts of Weber County do you serve?

All of it, starting with Ogden, Uintah, South Weber, Roy, Riverdale, South Ogden, Washington Terrace, North Ogden, Pleasant View, Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville and Plain City. Ogden Valley customers in Huntsville and Eden come down the canyon regularly. Repeat accounts can ask about pickup and delivery on scheduled routes, which depends on location and volume. One-off jobs are usually dropped off at the shop.

Can you recoat an old iron railing from an Ogden house?

Yes, and it is common work for us. Old railings usually carry several layers of paint and some rust, so we blast them to bare metal, pretreat, and powder coat. Deep pitting will still show through the new finish, which we point out at the quote. Bring the railing in, or send photos with rough dimensions first.

Do Ogden fab shops use you for overflow or full-time coating?

Both. Some local shops send us every weldment they build, and others call when their own schedule backs up or a job needs a color they do not stock. Either arrangement works. Repeat parts get their powder, finish, mil thickness and masking saved by part number, so the next batch matches the last one without anyone reciting the spec.

Send us the part.
